Thursday 14th June 2018 - CST Year 4 Sports Day
Our fellow partner school Headley Park invited Team VPPS and Cathedral Primary along for the 1st ever CST Year 4 Sports day. It was an absolutely brilliant day all round. Despite the windy start the sun soon burst through the clouds and lots of sport, determination and fun was had by all children from all three schools. There were opportunities to take part in Football, Tag Rugby, Hockey, Curling, Cycling, Tennis, Netball and some fun running races. It was fantastic to see children from all three schools playing and enjoying the sunshine together during their free time. Overall, the event was a huge success and the first of many CST joint events. Massive thank you to Headley Park for making us feel so welcome and organising such a great event. Well done Year 4!!
Wednesday 13th June 2018 - Year 3/4 Mini Tennis Competition
Three motivated and excited tennis teams had an ace morning at David Lloyd tennis centre at a mini tennis event organised by Ashton Park Sports Partnership. They all served, rallied and played with increasing confidence and skills and they should all be proud of their achievements. We made a racket when Team A won a well deserved Silver medal. Thank you to Miss Henderson for helping with the event.
Tuesday 12th June 2018 - Year 5/6 Kwick Cricket League (Week 2)
The busy term of cricket continued as Team VPPS headed back to Bedminster Cricket Club for another week of the Cricket league. Following a fun and exciting first week, the team carried on where they left off with a stunning victory against Hotwells School and an entertaining match that went right down to last ball against Parsons Street School. There were some stand out performances from Daniel Brooke and Harry Barnes. All the team can be extremely proud of their effort and attitude. Huge thanks to all the parents who helped with transport. Well done!!
Friday 8th June 2018 - Girls Kwick Cricket Festival and Picnic
8 very excited girls headed to Bedminster Cricket Club for a whole day of cricket fun in the sun! The team enjoyed an hour session of cricket skills taught by a former Somerset cricket player. They learnt all about the rules of the game as well as some top tips for batting, bowling and fielding. After that the girls took part in 3 matches against neighbouring schools. All the girls showed off their new found skills with a Fatima Butt bowling a hatrick of wickets and Roxy Chard scoring lots of sixes. The team as a whole had a lovely day and learnt some new skills along the way. Well done girls!!
Thursday 7th June 2018 - Year 5/6 Quad Kids Competition
VPPS Quad Kids team competed in another fantastic event organised by Ashton Park Sports Partnership.10 children took part in a 600metre, 75 metre race, a vortex howler throw and standing long jump to win points for their team. They all showed resilience determination but mostly importantly they had fun. VPPS finished a respectable 6th place out of 13 schools. Well done!!
Tuesday 5th June 2018 - Year 5/6 Kwick Cricket League (Week 1)
The VPPS Cricket team head to Bedminster Cricket for the first week of the APSP Kwick Cricket league. The team kicked off the league with two matches in which they performed to a wonderful standard, displaying some very confident bowling and batting skills. It was lovely to see the team really enjoying themselves and all of them can be extremely proud of how they represented their school. Some key highlights were some very speedy bowling by Ronnie and an acrobatic diving catch by Harry. Well done VPPS and roll on week 2!!
Monday 4th June 2018 - Year 5 Chess Championships
12 very excited and lucky Year 5/6 children headed to the Council Houses on College Green for the Annual Bristol School’s Chess Championships. The children were split into three teams of four and got to choose their own team names which were, VPPS Chess Champs, VPPS Sharks and VPPS Devils!! All the children’s Year 5 chess lessons most definitely paid off with some fantastic victories and a 3rd place finish for the VPPS Devils as well as the best Year 5 team overall!! A huge well done to all the children and some possible future Grand Masters!!
Thursday 24th May 2018 - Year 5/6 Gymnastics Competition
Team VPPS headed to Hartcliffe Gymnastics Centre for another afternoon of Gymnastics fun. The team can be extremely proud of their achievements and usual Vicky Park growth mindsert at the event as they competed in floor and vault routines. The team had success with several girls picking up a bronze medal for their floor routine and Ihsane from Year 6 winning an award for fair play and attitude. A huge thanks to all the parent helpers who made it possible to get to the event and a big well done to all the team!!
Tuesday 22nd May 2018 - KS2 Girls Football Festival at Ashton Gate Stadium
16 very excited KS2 girls headed to the home of Bristol City F.C to play on the pitch at Ashton Gate for an afternoon of Football fun and a tremendous opportunity. Team VPPS entered 2 teams into the competition and can be very proud of their efforts, attitude and achievements. Both teams played 6 matches each, with some stand-out performances from Roxy Chard in goal, the ever running Megan Bowers and a match winning goal from Phoebe Marsh. There were also opportunities to meet Bristol City manager Lee Johnson and the team Mascot Scrumpy!! Well done girls!!!
Thursday 17th May 2018 - Year 3/4 Gymnastics Competition
Thursday 17th May VPPS attended a gymnastics competition at the City of Bristol Gymnastics Centre. In the competition we had our year 3 pupils and one year 4, Daisy Szynkaruk. All competitors did VPPS and their selves proud and demonstrated the schools values all afternoon. Some special mentions for some great bouncing from Beya Beloucif, some excellent determination from Hamza Hassan and an inspiring performance from Alifa Khan who practised nonstop in the build up to the event. VPPS were again gifted with with some silverware when Beya and Daisy picked up judges medals. Well done team. Thank you to all parents that helps with lifts and who cheered the team on. We couldn’t do it without you!
Thursday 3rd May 2018 - Year 3/4 Tri-Golf Festival
Team VPPS headed to Bedminster Cricket Club on a lovely sunny Thursday morning to take part in the Ashton Park Tri-Golf festival. 10 lucky and excited year 3 and 4 children challenged themselves to the limit as they learnt how to putt and chip the ball. The team showed true VPPS determination as they practised their new skills and can be extremely proud of their efforts and positive attitudes. Well done golfers!!!!
Thursday 26th April 2018 - Girls Football league (Week 3)
The third and final week saw are girls head back to South Bristol Sports Centre following a fantastically successfully second week. The team were in good spirits and the sun was shining. It was a tough final week for the girls who played 5 matches, drawing 1 and scoring a brilliant 2-0 win over CST partners Headley Park School!! A huge thanks to all the parents for their support and help with transport and a massive well done to all the girls. Go Vicky Park!!!!
Thursday 19th April 2018 - Girls Football League (Week 2)
The VPPS girls football team headed back to South Bristol Sports Centre for week 2 of the girls football league. Despite results not going their way the previous week, the girls were still excited and enthusiastic and ready to show that Vicky Park growth mindset. And that they did!!!! The team played 5 matches, winning 3 and drawing 1. There were some stand out performances from Roxy Chard in goal, the speedy Layla SG and the tough tackling Tallulah Yates. The team showed a tremendous improvement match on match as their confidence grew. Overall, a very successful and fun week. We can't wait for next week.
Thursday 12th April 2018 - Girls Football league
VPPS Girls football team showed fantastic determination, resilience and fun in the taster session of the Ashton Park Sports Partnership tournament. Sharp shooting Layla scored 2 skillful goals, pocket rocket Connie defended and attacked with increasing confidence and fearless Milla had some great runs down the line. Betty (Bob) defended, defended and defended. Tallulah and Holly were everywhere, creating space and supporting other players in their role as joint captain. The player of the match was safe hands Roxy who saved so many goals and kept her cool when needed. Well done girls - you did us proud. We're all looking forward to next week.
Thursday 15th March 2018 - Year 3/4 Football League (Final Week)
Team VPPS headed back for the final week of the Year 3/4 Football league. Following their success at the previous session, confidence was high. Captain Luke Rawlings put in a solid defensive performance as the team conceded only 2 goals in 6 matches, scoring goals a plenty. The stand out match was an 8-0 victory against Woodlands, which saw 5 goals from Archie Vine and a wonder strike from a very excited Malik Kane! Well done!!
Thursday 8th March 2018 - KS1 Gymnastics Competition
Team VPPS competed in the Year 1/2 gymnastics competition at Hartcliffe gymnastics centre. This turned out to be a very successful trip!!! We took two teams, Year 1 team and a Year 2 team. The whole afternoon was a fantastic experience for the children involved and was topped off with lots of smiles and laughter. Both teams won silverware much to our delight, especially the emotional Mrs Casling who battled her way to the front to take photographs. Some stand out performances from the stretchy Sophia from Year 2 who came 5th in her individual event and Zoe who won bronze in her event. To top all that off our Year 2 team came second overall with Year 1 creeping onto the podium right at the last minute. Our very own Angel won a medal for her excellent attitude and effort. Overall we are so proud of all the children. Well done!

Tuesday 6th March 2018 - Year 5/6 Netball League (Week 2)
Team VPPS headed to Merchants Sports Academy for the second round of the 5/6 Netball League. The team were full of excitement and determination ahead of some tough games against the likes of Headley Park and Fair Furlong School. Some of the team were playing a match for the first time but this didn't put them off and all the players can be proud of their performances and attitudes. Lots of new skills and tactics were learnt and the team picked up a fantastic 2-0 win against Fair Furlong! Well done team VPPS!!
Tuesday 27th February 2018 - Year 2 Dance Fest
Well done to all of the children in Year 2 for two brilliant performances at the Ashton Park Sports Partnership's annual KS1 dance festival. The festival took place at Bedminster Down School on Tuesday afternoon and was themed around Hollywood! Spruce Class performed an upbeat routine inspired by 'Zootropolis' whilst Birch Class were a mix of frustrated detectives and cheeky panthers as they danced to the iconic Pink Panther theme.
Thursday 22nd February 2018 - Year 3/4 Football league (Week 1)
Despite the bitterly cold weather conditions, Team VPPS headed to South Bristol Sports Centre for the Year 3/4 Football league. Eight excited players couldn't wait to get onto the pitch and get started. The team played 5 matches, some for the first time ever, winning 2 and drawing 2!! All the players can be extremely proud of their performances and attitude. There were some stand out performances from the tough tackling Luke Rawlings and silky skills of Harley Ross! Well done!!
Tuesday 20th February 2018 - Year 5/6 Netball League
Team VPPS took part in week 1 of the 5/6 Netball League at Ashton Park School. Despite the bitterly cold conditions the team were in high spirits and couldn't wait to get started. The session consisted of some skills and drills with Debbie Scroggs from Ashton Park, followed by a friendly match against Christchurch Primary School. Overall a very fun start and the team picked up some valuable pointers that will help them going forward into the league next week. Well done!!
Year 5 Level 2 Bikeability Training
Well done to 19 of our Year 5 pupils who completed their Level 2 Bikeability training during week 6 of term. This qualification is fantastic in teaching our children how to be safe riding a bike on the roads. All the children had a fun time during their 4 off site sessions and can be very proud of what they have gain from the training. As usual their was high praise from the instructors about how positive the children’s attitudes were and how well they applied themselves to the training. Well done everyone!!
Friday 2nd February - Year 5 House Swimming Gala
Well done to all the Year 5s who competed in the house swimming gala this afternoon at South Bristol Pool. It was a great way to showcase the progress the children have made in their swimming lessons over the course of the year. The overall winners were Campbell house with a fantastic 59 points and for a second year running Miss Datta defeated Mr Mepsted in the class relay race. Well done to all the children for taking part and showing a tremendous growth mindset. Huge thank you to all the parents who came along to support!
Year 5/6 Football League - Finals Week
Team VPPS once again attended the Year 5/6 football tournament on Thursday and they did not disappoint. The team played three games in total and managed to win them all in great fashion. Team VPPS won their first game 5-0 showing from the very start how well they have gelled as a team. It was clear the team were here for business; as we went on to win our second game 3-1 and our third and final game of the evening 2-1. This means that VPPS are undefeated for a second week running. The whole team deserve a huge pat on the back especially Jack Vine who was utterly relentless all night in defence and attack. The persistent Jacob Touhysmith dazzled us all with a fine array of shots on goal that any goalkeeper would fear. And last but not least, Lewis Saunders who was quick on his feet in goal all evening demonstrating a true ’Captain’ performance. We will go into next week’s play-offs in high spirits as we have won our league! Outstanding! The team had a fantastic amount of support from the side lines from the parents, who cheered them on all evening which was great to see. As always team VPPS did the school proud. Well done!
Following their unbeaten record, and finishing top of the league, VPPS started the play-offs with high expectations. They quickly responded to the different standard of play and narrowly lost the first game 1-0. With passion, they played a brilliant second game, with 2 fantastic goals from pin point Liam Beirne and outstanding heart from Taylor Doyle but the game ended in a draw in the final seconds. A tired side couldn’t find their winning spirit and lost the final match. Team VPPS should be proud of their performances over the last 4 weeks and they can hold their heads up high. Every player gave it all until the very last second, well done VPPS!
Monday 15th January 2018 - Year 5/6 Dodgeball Competition
A new year and a new competition for Team VPPS. Some lucky and excited Year 5 and 6 children headed to Ashton Park School for a Dodgeball competition. After a quick warm up to test their throwing and dodging skills the team played a total of 5 matches, winning a superb 3!! All the children can be extremely proud of their attitude, effort and success on the day. There were some stand out performances from a brave Ivy Court and a focused Thomas Stancliffe. With the tema finishing a brilliant 3rd place a great afternoon was enjoyed by all.
Thursday 11th January 2018 - Year 5/6 Football League (Week 1)
Team VPPS took to the football pitch for this years 5/6 Football League at South Bristol Sports Centre. The whole team, including captain Lewis Saunders, were excited for the challenge ahead. The team played a total of 4 matches, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 1. Despite the freezing weather there were some top performances both as a team and individually. Some stand out moments were Jacob Forbes wonder goal and Taylor Doyle's tough tackling. As usual the team displayed that Vicky Park determination and respect. Well done!!
Thursday 7th December 2017 - Year 5/6 London Chess Classic
13 lucky Year 5 and 6 children headed to the Hammersmith Olympia Centre in London to take part in the 9th Annual London Chess Classic. Despite the 6.30am start at school all the children were extremely excited about the day ahead. Following a long coach journey to London Team VPPS arrived and headed straight in for some chess lessons from a former Grandmaster, even our very own Daniel Brook was invited on stage to take part in a match. After lunch all the children participated in their very own chess competition, competing against schools from across the country. Lots of new chess skills were learnt and all the children did Vicky Park proud. Well done!!
Friday 1st December 2017 - Girls Football Coaching Sessions
All our Year 3,4 and 5 girls had an exciting opportunity to take part in a some free football coaching sessions with our friends at Total Pro Soccer on Friday. The sessions were aimed at teaching the girls new skills, promoting girls football and generally having lots of fun. It was lovely to see all the girls joining in, smiling and excited about playing football. Well done girls!
Saturday 25th November 2017 - Primary Schools County Cross Country
A huge well done to 8 of our year 5 and 6 pupils who did VPPS proud on Saturday morning, representing South Bristol at the Primary Schools County Cross Country finals at Ashton Park School. Despite the extremely cold conditions all the children were smiling and excited for their opportunity to compete at this level. With lots of nervous parents cheering from the sides, all the children can be very proud of their achievements and determination with all our representatives finishing their respective races. Thursday 23rd November 2017 - Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Competition
18 Year 3/4 pupils headed to Ashton Park School with Mr S, Mrs C and Mr Kellow for some indoor athletics fun. The competition consisted of both throwing and jumping events as well as running races. The team were fantastic role models for VPPS and showed that typical Vicky Park growth mindset in all their events. Every child can be proud of their attitude and achievements, some stand out performers were Effie and Rebecca's brilliant long jumping. Ari's speedy running in the obstacle relay race and Helena's determination in every event she took part in. A huge thank you to all the parents who helped with transport and fantastic cheering from the sides! Well done VPPS!
Wednesday 22nd November 2017 - Year 5/6 Basketball League (Week 4)
VPPS had a full team for our last session in the Ashton Park tournament. Once again they showed determination, resilience and increasing skills to beat or draw against some tricky opponents. Sharp shooting Harry won VPPS valuable points and agile Arnold defended and attacked with strength. We even had a new player - spot the elf!! Well done VPPS - you did yourselves and us proud.
Wednesday 15th November 2017 - Year 5/6 Basketball League (Week 3)
Week 3 saw the return of Jacob, who played with increasing confidence but the loss of Ziggy, who was off sick. Get well soon. Arnold, Jay-Jay and Harry played with skills and determination and their practice at lunchtime clearly showed. Emily played enthusiastically in both defence and attack. However, the greatest improvement over the few weeks has been from Tallulah who marked her
player, found space, dribbled and had many shots at goal. Well played VPPS.
Friday 10th November 2017 - Year 4/5 & 6 Girls Football Festival
A selection of lucky Year 4/5 and 6 girls headed to South Bristol Sports Centre to celebrate 'Girls Football Week'. Despite the cold weather the sun was shining, the girls couldn't wait to get started. They played 5 matches, winning 2 and can be very proud of their attitude and determination. Each match saw each girl improve their footballing skills. There were some stand out performances from Niamh Cousins who scored 2 goals in a game and some tough tackling from Winnie Nash. Well done girls!!
Wednesday 8th November 2017 - Year 5/6 Basketball League (Week 2)
Full of enthusiasm and determination, Team VPPS Basketball headed back to Hengrove Leisure Centre for week 2 of SSP Basketball League. Following the previous weeks session the team were confident to improve yet again and improve they did. Each player who took part showed improvement and grew in confidence game by game and most importantly they enjoyed learning some new skills. Harry and Ziggy displayed some lovely passing moves, while Emily never gave up trying to intercept the ball. Well done Team VPPS and roll on week 3!!
Wednesday 1st November 2017 - Year 5/6 Basketball League (Week 1)
It was a fast and furious start to the SSP Basketball league. Team VPPS showed fantastic determination, resilience and a positive growth mindset at the taster session. Arnold displayed amazing interception skills, Jay Jay dribbled and shot like a pro and Jacob and Tallulah created space and marked with increasing confidence. The whole team improved over their 5 matches and we look forward to the start of the league next week. Go VPPS!
Thursday 19th October 2017 - SSP Swimming Gala
Mrs Casling, Mr Kellow and Mr Stinchcombe took 25 excited Year 5 and 6's to the SSP swimming gala at Hengrove Park pool. Some of the children were keen swimmers and some had never swam at a gala before. This did not matter as lots of fun was had by all. the team had some great results in their respective races which saw Team VPPS finish a fantastic 2nd place overall. Each swimmer can be very proud of their attitude and determination on the day. Well done!!
Monday 16th October 2017 - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby League (Final Week)
The final week of the Tag Rugby league at Broadplain saw Team VPPS hit a fantastic run of form. The team played 4 matches, winning 3 and drawing 1. Despite the strong winds the team showed strong determination, co-operation and bags of growth mindset. Each and every player has improved tremendously over the past few weeks of this league and the team have built a lovely bond. Well done to all the players and a huge thanks to all the parents that came out to support each week. Go VPPS!!!
Monday 9th October 2017 - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby League
Team VPPS headed back for week 3 of the Tag Rugby league and couldn't wait to get going. The team played 4 matches, winning 2 of them against St Mary Redcliffe and Hareclive. Spirits were high and not dampened by narrow defeats to Ilminster Avenue and Waycroft. This was a week were all the previous weeks work had paid off and the improvement was clear to see. All the players have developed their skills tremendously with this weeks highlight being Thomas Stancliffe's hat trick of tries!! Go VPPS!!!
Monday 2nd October 2017 - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby League (Week 3)
Team VPPS headed back for another week of Tag Rugby at Broadplain. This week saw us take on some tough schools such Parsons Street, Birdwell, Headley Park and St Mary Redcliffe. Follwing some really tricky matches the team bagged a superb 5-1 victory against Birdwell with tries from Thomas Stancliffe and Holly Biggs. Lots of determination and effort displayed on a cold and windy afternoon. Well done!!!
Thursday 28th September 2017 - Step into Netball Taster Day
7 Year 4 children took part in a fantastic Step into Netball taster session organised by Ashton Park Sports Partnership. The team enjoyed 2 hours of fun, skills and drills finishing with a few games of netball. The whole team showed resilience, determination and cooperation - well done VPPS.
Wednesday 27th September 2017 - National Fitness Day
National Fitness Day is the biggest nationwide celebration of physical activity and fitness. VPPS joined the most active day of the year and lots of fun and laughter was had be all. It was celebrated in style as every single class, along with took part in 10 minutes physical activity at 10am. it was varied with HIT sessions, Wake and Shake activities, Stretching and Just Dance videos!! A huge well done to all the children!
Monday 25th September 2017 - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby League (Week 2)
Year 5/6 headed back to Broadplain Rugby Club for the second week of the Tag Rugby League. As in the previous week the team were feeling confident and couldn't wait to get going. They played a total of 4 matches, winning 2. Each VPPS player can be extremely proud of their performances and effort. There were some stand out performances from a confident Monty and an organised Mila Weaver. Well done and thank you to all the parents who braved the rain to show their support!! See you next week!
Wednesday 20th September 2017 - Annual Schools Cross Country Championships
Team VPPS headed to Ashton Park School for another year of Cross Country fun! 14 enthusiastic year 5 and 6 children didn't care about the rainy showers and enjoyed huge success. As usual they represented VPPS to the highest of standards, showing co-operation, respect and kindness throughout. The course was long and tough but all the children finished their respective races and can be immensely proud, with 8 of our children finishing in the top 20 and qualifying for the South West county team. Huge thanks to all the support from parents that helped with transport! Go VPPS!!
Monday 18th September 2017 - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby league
It was week 1 of the 2017/18 Tag Rugby league at Broadplain and Team VPPS were in high spirits and raring to go!! The team played 5 matches, winning two and drawing one! A huge well done to all the children who took part, they can be very proud of their effort and positive mind-set. In true Vicky Park fashion they never gave up even when things got tough. There were some stand out performances from the speedy JJ and captain marvel Daniel Brooke. It was lovely to see so many parents there to cheer the team on despite the heavy rain. We can't wait for week 2.
Friday 15th September 2017 - Girls Tag Rugby
Team VPPS kicked off 2017/18 school year with the girls Tag Rugby Festival at Broadplain. This event saw our year 5 and 6 girls take to the field on a sunny Friday morning with some wonderful performance's. The team won 1 of their 4 matches, showing tremendous improvement as the morning went on. Some of the girls had never played Tag Rugby before and can be very proud their new found skills. Some stand out performances from the determined Holly Biggs and the speedy Emily Earle. Well done girls!!

12 lucky Year 5 pupils headed to the Council Houses on College Green to participate in the Annual Schools Chess Competition. All of the children had a great day and played some fantastic chess. Those Thursday afternoon chess lessons have paid off as all 12 player were victorious in at least one of their matches. Well done Team VPPS Chess!!

12 Year 1 girls had a special day at David Lloyd learning to play tennis with Judy Murray as part of her promotion of 'She Rallies' a tennis coaching scheme to get more girls playing tennis. You may have even seen our girls on points west news on Thursday!! Following lunch the girls took part in a Q&A and bravely asked Judy questions. to quote a few girls, "it's fun to do sport" and "I'm going to buy a tennis racket with my pocket money". A successful day and Mr Lacey got to meet his hero!

Miss Roddick, Miss Jones and Miss Gardiner took our dancers to Ashton Park School for the KS2 Dance Fest!! After weeks of dedicated rehearsals the team performed two dances which went down a storm with the packed crowd. All the dancers can be hugely proud of their effort and performances on the night as well has their dedication and attitude prior. Well done and a big thanks to Miss Roddick, Miss Gardiner and Miss Jones for yet another successful dance completion!
Summer Term Extra Sporting Activities
Year 3 and Year4 have been involved in an exciting opportunity to learn brand new skills and a special house competition. Future Stars and Mrs Casling have taken two groups over the last few weeks and taught them New Age Curling. They learnt accuracy, aiming and how to ‘bash’ each other’s curling stones out the way. Overall they had a fab morning. Congratulations to More house who were victorious in both competitions.
Also, reception and Year 1 had a very active morning learning new skills. Jade Sampson from Bristol School of Judo came in and taught very enthusiastic groups of children the basics of Judo. There was a lot a fun had by all and many children were keen to join Jade's lunchtime Judo club. More information on this club will be available in September.

Team VPPS headed to Bridge Learning Campus for the Ashton Park Quadkids Athletics event. The scorching temperatures didn't put off our team and each one of the competitors can be proud of their performances. VPPS competed in 4 events, 600 metre running race, howler throw, standing long jump and the 60 metre sprint race. Some stand out performances saw Kayne Christie win both running races and Zofia Godall demonstrate a tremendous growth mindset. Well done team VPPS!!!

20 of our Year 5 pupils completed their Level 2 Bikeability training. We are immensely proud of their achievements. All the pupils had great fun during the 5 sessions out on the roads , where they learned the importance of road safety, road hazards and understanding the highway code amongst many other important cycle safety information. Well done to all the children who took part.

Team VPPS headed to Bedminster Cricket Club for a day of sun, fun and girls cricket!! The team was made up of year 5 and 6 girls who had never played cricket before and its aim was to teach them some new skills. It was a fun filled day where the girls practised some throwing, catching, batting and bowling skills and also got to compete against other schools. All the girls came away very happy, proud of their achievements and with some new found skills. Well done girls!!

Year 5 and 6 headed to the Ashton Park Tennis competition following in the footsteps of the Year 3/4 team. Team VPPS showed some fantastic new skills they had learnt from the session and represented the school to the usual high standard. There was lots of examples of growth mindset and our school values being shown through out the competition and the team can be very proud of their achievements. Lots of fun was had along the way with some stand out performances from Ashton Sweeny and Billy Marsh. Well done Team VPPS!!!

Team VPPS headed to Bedminster Cricket club for the first week of the Kwick Cricket League. With the sun shining and conditions perfect for a game of cricket the spirits were high. The team played 2 games and performed to a superb standard in both, drawing one and narrowly losing the second. Some great bowling saw Daniel Brooke take 4 wickets along with some hard hitting that saw Kayne Christie score 2 sixes in one over. Each player can be very proud of their effort and attitude. Wee can't wait for week 2.

Our Year 3's and 4's headed to City of Bristol Gymnastics centre in Hartcliffe for the Ashton Park gymnastics competition. The team each performed a floor routine they have been practicing and also a vault routine. Lots of hard work, determination and fun was shown by all. A huge well done to all the children that took part, as usual they represented VPPS fantastically well.

The girls of Team VPPS took to the Football field for Week 2 of the Girls Football League at South Bristol Sports Centre. They played 4 matches in total and showed tremendous progress from their first week. Elsie Williams- Beese scored a wonderful goal as the girls drew 1-1 in the first match, Lara once again demonstrated some tough tackling in defence with Molly making some top draw saves in goal. Overall the girls never gave up and can't wait for week 3.

Year 4 had an exciting opportunity to attend 'Bristol Walkfest' launch at College Green. They took part in a measure mile challenge around College Green and received a certificate and badge for their tremendous achievement. The children also had the opportunity to play walking Football, make a cycle powered smoothie, see a Parkour demonstration from Freedog and pet a guide dog. The children had loads of fun walking with the sustainable transport roadshow team and their mascot. This launch starts a month long walking festival involving 50 local organisations in Bristol offer over 140 walks. The walks can be view on the following website: www.bristolwalkfest.com.

The VPPS girls football team took to the pitch for the first week of the Ashton Park Football festival for girls. The team we were in high spirits on arrival and couldn't wait to get going. they played 4 matches and showed true VPPS determination and growth mindset improving each game. There were some wonderful performances from Lara Denyer and Effie Lomax. All the girls can be proud of their effort and we can't wait for next week!!!

Year 5 and 6 headed to Hengrove swimming pool for the annual Ashton Park Partnership gala. Team VPPS were out in force as 22 children took part in this event. With an overall finish of 5th place a fun afternoon was had by all. It was lovely to see so many smiley faces during the event such as Isaac Perkins who took part in his first gala, JJ from year 5 showed strong resilience and determination in all of his races and Ivy Court came in first place in her race. A huge well done to all that took part. Happy Easter!!

Team VPPS headed to Broadplain Rugby Club for the 3/4 Tag Rugby Festival. It was a sunny and slightly chilly morning but the team were in high spirits. Some of the team had never played Tag Rugby before and can be very proud of the new skills they demonstrated. The team won one match on the day and scored lots of brilliant tries!! They all showed a positive attitude and were very respectful to the opposition. Well done!

The netball team took to the court again with a returning Daniel Lovell but an injured Amelia T in support. The headed to Merchants Academy for the 5/6 Netball Finals. They showed great team work and focused determination with 2 defeats and 2 draws. No medals this time but VPPS are proud of their growth mindset and fantastic determination.

Elsie showed ninja skills and appeared everywhere, Kanye proved to be a sharp shooter and Naomi showed increasing confidence in her new role at wing defence. Well done VPPS.

Team VPPS headed to Merchants Academy for a fun filled day of Hockey. The team couldn't wait to get started and won their group with 3 wins and a draw and did not concede one goal. They followed this up in the quarter finals with a 2-0 win against Luckwell and a fantastic 1-0 win against Christchurch School in the semi-finals. The team showed passion, determination and respect as they just fell short losing to Ashton Vale in the Final. A huge well done to all the players as they finished a brilliant 2nd place out of over 20 schools. Go Team VPPS!!!!

Some standout performers were Grace Perry how was superb in the centre position and Daniel Lovell was outstanding in his first ever Netball match, showing determination and passion throughout. Team VPPS headed out for a friendly football match against Illminster Avenue school. The team turned out a truly fantastic performance coming out 11-1 winners. All the players showed true growth mindset and teamwork. Spike Weaver scored a tremendous 7 goals, Jack Vine hit 2 goals with Taylor Doyle and Liam Beirne scoring the rest. the team can be very proud of their achievements and it was great to see the sportsmanship towards our opposition during and after the game. Mr Bliss and Miss Sadler took Year 2 to BDS school for the annual KS1 Dance Fest. This years theme was 'Barnaby Bear goes around the world'. Each class was given a country to perform a dance routine for. Birch class, dressed in all red and black, performed their routine about Spain with Mulberry class paying tribute to India in all blue and yellow. After weeks of hard work, determination, many rehearsals and a sprinkle of magic from Miss Gardiner, Year 2 can be thrilled with their performances on the day. Both routines were brilliant, they were fun, colourful and well choreographed. Well done Year 2 and a massive thank you to all the parents who came along to help.

Team VPPS took to the stage at Bristol's Colston Hall to perform two dances at the Stages dance competition. Weeks of hard work, determination, co-operation and fun in preparing for the competition was clear to see as every single VPPS performer shone!! Our children received a standing ovation from the audience for both performances as they were amazed by numerous cartwheels, lifts and two perfectly choreographed danced routines. A massive well done to all the children who took part and worked so hard to achieve what they did, to all the parents who were there to support and to MIss Roddick, Miss Jones and Miss Gardiner who made the whole thing possible! It was finals week for our Year 5/6 Football team who have reached the semi finals of the Ashton Park Sports Partnership football league. Losing only 2 games in 3 weeks, scoring over 30 goals this league has been a tremendous achievement for VPPS. Team VPPS narrowly missed out on a place in the cup final to a last minute goal against Holy Mead School with a score of 2-1. However, despite this disappointment each and every VPPS player showed that VPPS spirit and growth mindset to pick themselves up and beat West Town Lane School 2-1 in the bronze medal match to finish a fantastic 3rd place!!! Well done to all the players involved and a massive thank you to the support from so many parents during this 4 week event. Well done !!!

Team VPPS Football took to the field once again for week 3 of the Year 5/6 Ashton Park Sports Partnership tournament. The previous 2 weeks had been very successful with the team losing only 2 of their 11 matches played. Week 3 was no exception as the team ran out undefeated winning 4 out of 4! On a very windy afternoon the team scored a total of 15 goals with Buster Barnes netting a 3 goals in one game and our goalkeeper Kanye Christie conceding only 2!! Well done Team VPPS and we look forward to next weeks grand finals!
Term 3 - Year 6 Level 2 Bikeablity Training
Some of our Year 6 pupils took their Level 2 Bikeablity training this term. The training consisted of 4 sessions to develop “on-road” skills to enable children to make local cycle journeys safely. The course was run by Bristol City Council in partnership with Life Cycle UK. All the children passed the course with flying colours and really enjoyed the experience and new skills learnt along the way. This course will run again in Term 6 for Year 5. Team VPPS took to the football field again for week 2 of the Year 5 and 6 Ashton Park Sports Partnership Football League. Despite the freezing conditions the team won 3 of their 5 games. There was some stand out performances from Lewis Saunders who scored 2 wonderful goals in one game and Tean Woods-Roberts who was excellent in defence all afternoon. Well done to all the players that took part for showing that VPPS respect and determination and a huge thank you to all the parents that came to watch and helped with transport. Team VPPS were back in Football action for the second time in a week. This time it was week 1 of the Year 5/6 Ashton Park Sports Partnership Football League. It was a bitter cold afternoon but that didn't stop the team winning all 6 of their matches and scoring 16 goals along the way!! A tremendous effort from the whole team with some fine goals by Spike Weaver and Taylor Doyle. It was fantastic to see so many parents their to cheer on the team. Thank you! We can't wait for week 2.

Despite the pouring rain and being on the losing side, the team can be very proud of their effort and attitude. All the players showed determination and respect during the match with some stand out performances from Joseph Parker, who was playing his first ever match and Barney Madge who showed a tremendous growth mindset.

Team VPPS kicked off 2017 at Bedminster Down School. A team of our Year 3 and 4 pupils participated in the Ashton Park Sportshall Athletics competition. This event was made up of a variety of throwing, catching and running events and a great deal of fun was had by all. Team VPPS showed their usual high standard of respect for others, determination while competing along with showing tremendous teamwork and kindness towards each other. All the children and parents had a fabulous time and it was great to see our children learning new skills and generally enjoying the competition. Team VPPS came in 3rd place overall and can be very proud of their achievements.

2017 has some exciting sporting events to for everyone at VPPS to look forward to. Term 3 and 4 are particularly action packed with Football matches for Years 3,4,5 and 6, Year 2 will be taking part in Dance Fest, our dancers will be back in action again at the annual Stages dance competition, Year 5 and 6 will be taking part in Bikeablity training, all ages will be participating in the Ashton Park Gymnastics Festival, plus Key Stage 2 will be competing in a Hockey Festival. Tuesday 13th December
On Tuesday Mr Gunner and Mr Stinchcombe took 11 excited Year 6 children to London for the 8th Annual London Chess Classic. A wet and cold 7am start didn't dampen the spirits, nor did the 3 hour coach journey! The children had a wonderful time, meeting real chess grandmasters, competing in a chess tournament of their own against over 300 other children and watching real chess professionals in action. The whole experience was a day to remember and everyone picked up many new chess tips along the way. We can't wait for next year!!!
Wednesday 23rd November
Team VPPS headed to the finals of the Ashton Park Basketball league in fine form. VPPS played 3 games in a mini finals league, winning 2 and losing 1. It was a very close fought affair with the team finishing 3rd place on goal difference. Every player showed determination and passion once again and can be very proud of their achievements over the last 3 weeks. Well done !!
Sunday 20th November
Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Cross Country County finals on a cold and very wet Sunday morning at Ashton Park School. Ronnie, Emilia and Daniel B from Year 5 and Kanye and Youseff from Year 6 all took part in this event and can be very proud of their achievements. All of the runners gave their all and showed that tremendous VPPS growth mindset in very difficult conditions. Each and every runner did VPPS very proud. Well done to all the runners!
Wednesday 16th November
Week 2 of the Basketball League saw Team VPPS undefeated again! The team played 6 matches, winning 3 and drawing 3, including a exciting and hard fought draw against our local neighbours St Mary Redcliffe. Each and every VPPS player showed tremendous attitude and application on and off the court. Sam Richardson and Cameron George can be very proud of their performances and improvement over the last few weeks, showing excellent determination in developing their basketball skills.
Wednesday 2nd November
Team VPPS were back in sporting action at the start of term 2 as week 1 of the Ashton Park Year 5 and 6 Basketball League began. The team played five friendly matches, to gain an understanding of the rules and learn valuable skills, before the league proper begins In week 2. As usual, the team can be proud of their performances winning 4 matches and drawing 1. All the players showed respect, determination and co-operation as they dug deep to win their matches. Well done and we can't wait for week 2!
Monday 17th October
The fifth and final week of the Tag Rugby festival saw Team VPPS continue their fantastic run of performances with 3 more wins and a hard fought 5-5 draw versus Christchurch. As in previous weeks the team work and togetherness showed on and off the pitch with some fine team performances. More tries from Spike Weaver and Kayne Christie and some wonderful defensive matches from Daniel Brooke and Andrew Williams saw Team VPPS finish 1st place in their designated league. Well done Team VPPS!

Week 4 of the Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby festival saw Team VPPS turn out their best performance yet. The team played 3 games and won all 3, scoring a massive 16 tries along the way! It was evident how much the team have grown together over the last month with some fantastic team work both in defence and attack from all players. Stand out performances in defence from Bryn Hill and Elsie Williams-Beese along with some superb tries from Kayne Christie and Spike Weaver. Well Done Team VPPS and keep up the good work in week 5.
Tuesday 4th October
The Ashton Park Sports Partnership Cross Country run saw another successful sporting outing by Team VPPS. Every VPPS pupil who took part ran a superb race with all our runners finishing in the top 45 in their designated race. The Year 3/4 boys race saw some VPPS determination from Felix, Harry, Ziggy, Arnold and Abraham. The Year 5 girls saw Ivy and Emilia finish in the top 21 with Emilia qualifying for the county team with the Year 5/6 boys Ronnie, Daniel, Kayne and Youseff also joining her in representing the county. Manu, Robbie and Melissa also ran a great race finishing in the top 25. All in all a very successful event for VPPS!!!

Week 3 of the Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Festival at Broadplain RC was very exciting. Team VPPS played 4 matches, winning 2 and drawing 1. They racked up an outstanding 16 tries in those matches with tries from Kayne Christie, Andrew Williams, Youseff Gehabi and Mikey Godwin. The team showed their usual co-operation, respect and determination, even with the referees and opposition teams commenting on how respectful the VPPS team were towards their opposition and what a lovely spirit they played the game in. Some of our Year 3 and 4’s took part in a Netball taster event called ‘Step into Netball’ at South Bristol Sports Centre on Thursday 29th September during a lovely soggy afternoon. The event provided an introduction to the basics of Netball through games and drills. Despite the wet weather, the VPPS team showed determination to learn and develop their Netball skills and had a really fun time along the way. Well done Team VPPS !!

Week 2 of the Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Festival saw another successful week of pure team work, that passionate VPPS determination as well as some wonderful individual performances. Team VPPS played 4 games and as the previous week won 3 of them. There were some stand out performances from the whole team, with tries from Andrew Williams, Spike Weaver, Kayne Christie and a superb last gasp winning try from Daniel Brooke. Also, a real strong defensive performance from Elsie Williams-base. The team are really building some momentum going into week 3 next Monday. Go Team VPPS!

Following the brilliant example set by the Girls Tag Rugby team the previous week, the Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby team kicked off week 1 of the Ashton Park Sports Partnership tag rugby festival this week. The team performed to a fantastic standard, playing 4 matches and winning 3. They showed all the VPPS school values, highlighting great deal of determination and teamwork with some particularly standout performances from Lily Gage, Daniel Brooke and Kanye Christie. We are all looking forward to the next 4 weeks.
Friday 16th September
The first sporting event of the year started with a fantastic display of team work, co operation and determination. A mixture of Year 4, 5 and 6 girls attended the annual Girls Tag Rugby festival at Broadplain Rugby Club. Led by inspirational captain Holly Biggs, the girls improved in each game.
Tries were scored by Holly, Amelia, Layla and Isabelle but this was only down to the team work shown by all the girls. Emily also showed excellent defensive skills with Amelia and Lily also playing in the Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby festival.
Today, eight Year 3 pupils went to David Lloyd Tennis Centre to play in a tennis festival against other local schools. It was a great chance for the children to put in to practice all the skills they've been learning in their PE lessons. They did amazingly well, scoring lots of points and one of our teams got into the finals. It was very exciting and they ended up coming second! Well done!

On Wednesday, some children went to Bristol and Clifton Golf Club to have a go at tri-golf. The children had great fun trying out all the different games and scored lots of points. It was quite tricky to start with but we got better and better as the morning went on.
On Tuesday our cricket team had their second league session at Bedminster Cricket Club. It was a great afternoon of cricket in the sunshine and our team played really well. We played two matches which were very close. We're looking forward to our next and final session next week.

On Monday we sent two teams to a netball tournament at Redmaids School. Our children played so well that they came 1st and 2nd. Amazing!
On Wednesday lots of children went to the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership competition at Hartcliffe Gym. We had great fun on all the apparatus and the children performed their routines brilliantly.
On Saturday 23rd April Kanye Christie and Sonny Page took part in the Bristol Schools Cross Country Final at Ashton Park School after coming at the top 20 in our local area at the Cross Country event earlier in the year. They both ran extremely well and made a value contribution to the Bristol South team.
After their amazing performance in the Heats for the Bristol School's Swimming Gala last term, Katie Hill and Stanley Court got through to the finals which also happened on Saturday. They did brilliantly, with Stanley narrowly missing out on a medal by only hundredths of a second!
How brilliant to see our children performing at such a high level. We are very proud!
Tuesday 12th April
We sent some of the Year 6 netball squad to play in a High 5 Netball Tournament today. The standard was very high; even the Secondary PE teachers were impressed. We had great fun and came 4th! Well done girls!
Wow! What a busy sporting week we've had!
It all started at the weekend, when our amazing dancers wowed the audience at the Colston Hall with their superb performance at Stages. We're now waiting to hear if we will get a place at the gala performance later in the year.
On Tuesday morning, some of our Year 6 children went to the Bristol School Swimming Association Swimming Gala. They did amazingly well, showing some real skill and determination. Well done swimmers!
On Tuesday after school our netball team went to their finals, playing against the top teams in the area. They faced top opposition and horrible weather conditions but they played really well and did themselves proud. We were even approached by the organisers who complimented the girls on their standard of play. She said she had never seen such a strong team from Victoria Park! What a compliment!!
On Thursday our Year 3 and 4 football teams played their next league session at Bristol South Sports Centre. They showed great teamwork and really enjoyed themselves.
Finally, this morning our Year 5 rugby team played at Broadplain Rugby Club against lots of other local schools. They had a great time and did the school proud.
Well done to all involved and thanks so much to all parents and carers who have come to support and provide transport.

What a great start to this term!

Our netball team had their first league session and what a great start it was! The team have been training since September and all their hard work and commitment have paid off. They won all but one of their matches. Good luck for the next league session!
On Wednesday 2nd December some of Year 4 children took part in an athletics competition. Because we didn’t have enough for a full team, we joined together with Hotwells Primary School. It was great to make some new friends and we came 3rd. Great job!

Our basketball team had a great first session at the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership Basketball League today. We won 3 matches, drew 1 and lost 1. This was really impressive especially considering the children had not played a proper match together before. We're looking forward to another successful session next week.

Congratulations to our year 6 dodgeball team who came third in a tournament at Bedminster Down School today. They showed great teamwork and sportsmanship, working well together and showing respect to their opponents. They were so impressive, the organisers awarded them the fair play award. Great work!
The Victoria Park Rugby League team played their first set of tag rugby matches this Monday at Broadplain Rugby Club. They did extremely well drawing one match, losing two and ending on a high winning their final game! Their faces, adorned with the Romanian flag, were beaming as they came off the pitch and we can't wait to repeat our success next Monday evening!
Last Friday some of our girls went to play at a girl's rugby tournament at Broadplain Rugby Club. They had a great time and played really well, especially considering that lots of them hadn't played competitive rugby before. Great job girls!
